Entrance Test for Admissions in TS Model Schools

Starting from this academic year (2015-16), a separate entrance test would be conducted for admissions into 193 model schools in Telangana. Earlier, the admissions were done through lottery system.

Confirming the same, Telangana School Education Department on Monday issued a GO, saying that the model schools have been declared as specific category schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009. According to the RTE Act, no schools except the ones under ‘specific category’ can conduct any kind of screening test or entrance test for their admissions. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalaya also fall under this category.

As the next academic year is set to commence in a week, the Model School Society under the State School Education Department is making all arrangements for holding the entrance test. The officials are planning to wrap up the admission process in 20 days.

A notification would be issued inviting applications for entrance test and the exam will be conducted in all district headquarters. Though the officials have not announced the exam pattern, the question paper is likely to have multiple choice questions to test the basic knowledge of candidates in Mathematics, English, Social Sciences and Telugu.

Those who clear the entrance test would be given admission in class VI in any of the model schools in the state. There are around 193 model schools across Telangana and each school has 80 seats.
