The inordinate delay in issuing notification for the District Institute Education and Training Common Entrance Test (DIET CET) in Telangana is forcing students to skip the Diploma in Education (D.Ed) courses for this academic year.
Usually, admissions begin between June and July for these courses. Let alone admissions, this year, the Telangana School Education Department hasn’t even released the notification for the entrance test. While the admission to all other courses is already in progress, D.Ed aspirants are moving to graduation courses.
The school education department, which conducts DIET CET, said the proposal for an entrance test and admission schedule has already been prepared. Now, it is pending with the State government for approval. The notification will be out once the government approves it, said a senior official.
However, students are worried of losing one academic year due to this long delay. Some students have already started taking admissions in other courses. Sai Kiran, a student from Hyderabad who aspired to study D.Ed, said, “I decided to take a B.Tech course. Even if the DIET CET notification comes now, it will take a long time to finish admissions and begin classes.”
There was delay in D.Ed admissions last year too. Due to bifurcation process, both the States couldn’t take a decision on counselling. As a result, the admission process began in January this year instead of June last year! The present batch has attended classes just for six months in the last academic year.
DIET CET is one of the most awaited tests. Around 1.5 lakh students appeared for this test in 2014. Statistics from previous entrance tests show that it is the second highest competed entrance test after the EAMCET.
