An estimated 1,000 intermediate students from Telangana who qualified the IIT JEE Mains, are likely to lose their chances of getting into prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) as the State government failed to send their mark memos to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Affected students and parents are now running from pillar to post hoping that the Telangana government will come to their rescue. Nearly 1,180 Intermediate students of Telangana who applied for revaluation of answer scripts, had also qualified the IIT-JEE Mains and many hoped to secure good ranks. After revaluation, marks of at least some students changed.
The State government had to send the revised marks to the CBSE for according ranks to these students. “As time was running out for finalising IIT JEE ranks, we had requested the TS Intermediate board to send the marks memos to CBSE at the earliest but they failed to do so,” charged Sriramulu, father of an Intermediate student. Worried their wards would lose the chance to secure admission in IITs and possibly even lose an academic year, parents of these students also appealed to CBSE chairman and secretary not to finalise the ranks till the TS government sent marks of the candidates who sought revaluation. The CBSE told them to ensure the memos were sent on time.
For inexplicable reasons, the marks were not sent to the CBSE before the deadline, the parents now allege. When the students looked up CBSE’s website on Wednesday, eager to see their ranks, they realised that their ranks were withheld. “Our appeal to the TS Inter Board fell on deaf ears. We even rushed to the Board Secretary’s office but after making us wait till evening, he suddenly disappeared,” said an angry parent. Several students and their parents rushed to the Secretariat, hoping the government would intervene.
“This is a case of gross negligence by TS Intermediate Board, putting the future of close to 1,200 students at stake. My daughter has worked hard for four years. The government should immediately send a senior official to New Delhi and resolve the issue,” said Vimal Kumar, a parent from Vidyanagar.
