Institutions names Should be changed from Ap board to TS in :Mana Telangana

What’s in the name…?

We often hear such comments while discussing success and failure of a person or organisation.

But, it makes an issue particularly during the change of political regimes and division of geographical unit including, bifurcation of States and political outfits.

The newborn State of Telangana has got an opportunity to change the names of institutions located in Hyderabad and elsewhere in the State that were named during combined Andhra Pradesh dispensation.

Names of several universities and institutions have been changed by the Government of Telangana since the State came into being on June 2 last year.

In a move which is likely to cause heartburn and agitation among Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ranks in Telangana, the Government of Telangana on Monday issued orders changing the nomenclature of Alimineti Madhava Reddy-Andhra Pradesh Academy of Rural Development (AMR-APARD) located at Rajendra Nagar here as Telangana State Institute of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development (TSIPARD).

Leader from Telangana

Though the nomenclature change is in accordance with the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, it is likely to cause a political stir as the institution is name after a politician from the region. The TDP Government in the past in combined Andhra Pradesh State named the institution after the party leader A. Madhava Reddy, who held the portfolio of PR & RD and was killed in a land mine blast by the People’s War naxalites.

There was not much opposition when the name of agriculture university was changed from Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University to Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University as the previous name was that of politician from Seemandhra, though he was highly respected across the regions. Similar was the case with veterinary university as it was renamed as P.V. Narasimha Rao Telangana State Veterinary University from being known as Sri Venkateshwara Veterinary University.

Besides, several institutions were renamed as “Telangana” in place of “Andhra Pradesh” after the bifurcation of the State.

Telangana Government has also set up new health varsity – Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences – after the local literary stalwart as the university in combined AP was known as NTR University of Health Sciences.
